About the Capacity Building Programme
In common parlance, research refers to a search for knowledge as such it entails a lot of hard work for it is an intellectual activity. Research Scholars engaged in legal research have the best opportunity to apprise Legislative as also Law Enforcement Authorities about the inconsistencies of the existing law as also the legislative vacuum which needs to be addressed expeditiously. Research is an indispensable part of the legal profession for it is an art which only few can master. Viewed in the light of planning and development, the importance of research lies in its quality and not in quantity. The methodology may differ from problem to problem, yet the basic approach towards research remains the same. It is in this backdrop that legal research assumes significance, it being so vitally connected with the all-round development of the society at large.
The question of the quality of research underscores whether the research in any branch of knowledge enriches knowledge ecosystem in a significant manner or not. There is a consensus that barring a few exceptions, the overall quality of University and College level research in India is far from satisfactory. Indeed, in many institutions the quality of research is alarmingly poor. In large number of cases these do not conform to international standards and do not make significant contributions to theoretical or applied aspects of a given discipline.
This Capacity Building Programme, an initiative of the University, aims at skill development in the field of legal research. It primarily focuses on the need of incorporating research ethics amongst the legal research scholars and aims at developing research aptitude in respect of research designing as also sensitizing the research scholars to adhere to the appropriate research methodology throughout for improving the quality of legal research.
