A plea seeking for the removal of the Maharashtra government led by Chief Minister Udhav Thakray and for the imposition of the President’s rule in its state by the Hon'ble Supreme Court on Friday, 16 October 2020. The PIL was heard by a bench comprising Hon'ble Chief Justice of India SA Bobde and Hon'ble Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian and noted that the court could not entertain or intervene in please with such prayers.
CJI Bobde informed the petitioner Vikram Gahlot that he has the liberty to approach President but I asked him not to come here. “As a citizen, you are at liberty to approach the President but do not come here,” The plea refers to the context of the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput and the demolition of actor Kangana Ranaut's property to the court and that law and order situation in Maharashtra has failed. The affairs of the state were not being dealt with the provision of the constitution and law. In response to this argument, hon'ble CJI Bobde remarked "Are you saying that just because a Bollywood actor died, the State is not following provisions of the Constitution ?" CJI Bobde also indicated to the petitioner that every incident of an alleged breakdown of law and order mentioned in the play was situated in Mumbai. "Do you know how big the State of Maharashtra is?", stated Honourable CJI Bobde. Hence, the plea was dismissed by the Honourable Supreme Court.
