About the Competition
Centre for Legal Studies, Gitarattan International Business School, Rohini, Delhi is organizing 3rd Virtual National Debate Competition on 4th and 5th December 2020, on the topic Citizenship Amendment Law: Is it Constitutionally Valid or a Threat to Secular Nature of the Constitution.
About CLS GIBS
Centre for Legal Studies has been set up by Gitarattan International Business School in the year 2016 for imparting legal education. Gitarattan International Business School (GIBS) was established in the year 2004. GIBS is affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi and is approved by Bar Council of India for Law programmes and All India Council for Technical Education for Management programmes.
About the Event
On December 12, 2019, a Legislature was passed on one of the Debateable Laws of India that is Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). This ignited widespread protests and violent clashes between public and police all across the nation. The government repeatedly assured the minority population not to feel threatened or anxious about their constitutionally mandated rights, as well as citizenship of India. There were people who defended the Act by stating it as Constitutional.
By analysing the situation closely, one can reach at a conclusion that two central questions have emerged with proportion to the CAA. First being that whether the act is constitutional or not (whether it infringes Article-14 of the constitution along with others) and secondly, its consequences on the minority community.
The objective of the Event
