No division of quota for NRIs in NEET

  • The Senior Health Ministry says that there is only one quota slot per head.
  • There will be no SC, ST, OBC quota for NRI.
  • The case is pending before the Kerala High Court on whether NRIs are eligible for community quota.
No “sir” and “madam” salutations are allowed by Kerala Panchayat officials.

  • Vice President P.R. Prasad of Mathur Panchayat banned the salutations like ‘sir' and ‘madam'. 
  • He believes people are the “Supreme Authority.” 
  • Every panchayat official shall have to display their names on their table.
  • Some words are also banned, like ‘apekshikkunnu’ or ‘abhyathikunnu’, which means ‘I request' in letters.
Allahabad High Court declare Cow should be a national animal

  • The court says that cows should be reported as national animals and cow protection included as a fundamental right of Hindus. Hence, denied bail to Javed caught under U.P. Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act, 1955. (Javed v. State of U.P.)

  • Delhi H.C issued notice on a petition challenging the appointment of Gujarat Cadre IPS officer Rakesh Asthana as Delhi Police Commissioner.
Sri Lanka declares economic emergency to contain food prices

  • Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has said a soaring inflation after steel a fall in the value of the country's currency caused a spike in food prices.
  • The government has appointed a former General as Commissioner of essential services. The military will oversee the action which gives power to officials to ensure essential items are sold at government-guaranteed prices.
Taliban urged to form inclusive government

  • The group appealed to the international community not to exclude any regional country from “collaborative efforts to bring peace in Afghanistan”.
  • This requires India, Pakistan, China, Russia, Iran and other countries to evolve and implement a common strategy in cooperation with the members of the International community. 
  • India should permit temporary stay to Afghan journalists, artists and civil society leaders feeling threatened by the conditions in their country.
Delhi High Court took cognizance of a defamation case

  • H.C. took cognizance of a defamation complaint filed by Delhi Cabinet Minister and AAP leader Kailash Gahlot against BJP MLA Vijendra Gupta for alleging defaming him in relation to procurement of 1,000 low-floor buses by the Delhi Transport Corporation.

  • China's new data privacy law took effect from 1st September 2021. 
  • The law laid down the responsibilities of all companies and organisations handling data.
Supreme Court issued directions to comply with Covid-19 vaccination in Mental Health care

  • The Supreme Court passed a slew of directions to the Centre to provide vaccination in mental health institutions.
  • The court directed the State to finalise a time bound schedule to vaccinate the inmates.
200 army personnel for Zapad exercise

  • The Indian Contingent for the ZAPAD 2021 exercise begins at Nizhny in Russia on Friday.
  • The exercise aims to enhance military and strategic ties among the participating nations while planning and executing their routine.
