Supreme Court Adjourning The Pegasus Case Probe

  • The Supreme Court in the last hearing says it can't Compel Central Government to file detailed affidavits.

  • In the recent hearing the apex court agreed to Centre request to adjourn probe in Israeli based spyware- Pegasus.

  • Solicitor General Tushar Mehta Submitted Before the Court to Form a Neutral Committee to look after the matter.

Odisha Municipal Law and Panchayat Amendment Bill – Reservation Capped by Government to 50%

  • The Odisha government passed the Municipal bill capping 50% reservation.

  • It is said to be a move which will pave the way for conducting elections to urban local bodies in the state.

  • Odisha panchayat bill seeking amendment in Odisha Gram Panchayat Act,1964 and Odisha Panchayat Samiti Act,1959 And Odisha Zilla Parishad Act,1991.

  • In 2013 Orissa High Court fixed the ceiling not to exceed 50% for SC/ST and Backward Classes, which was also upheld by the Apex Court.

Warrant Issued in Pehlu Khan Lynching case 

  • Rajasthan High Court issued bailable warrant against 6 persons acquitted by Session Court in 2017.

  • In 2019 all the six persons were acquitted by the court on the occasion of “Benefit of Doubts”.

  • Government filed an appeal in the High Court against the trial court verdict after SIT pointed out loopholes in the prima facie probe.

  • Division Bench comprising Justice Goverdhan Bardhar and Justice Vijay Bishnoi issued the bailable warrants in the sum of Rs.10,000 returnable within eight weeks.

Rona Wilson – Bhima Korean Case Accused Gets Bail

  • A special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court on Tuesday granted 14 days bail to activist Rona Wilson to complete his father’s last rites on a personal bond of Rs.50,000 with one or two sureties.

  • Mr. Wilson, accused in violence case was arrested on 6th June 2018 and is currently lodged at Taloja Central Jail.

Interim Bail Granted in Single Stroke to nearly 100 Convicts by Apex Court 

  • Convicts serving in Agra Central Jail for more than 20 years represented by the Advocate Rishi Malhotra were released on ad-interim bail by the Supreme Court subject to terms and conditions imposed by the Trial Court.

Cairn sees end to tax dispute with India

  • The U.K based Cairn Energy is working with the Government of India to expedite to end tax dispute with India.

  • The government recently amended the income tax laws to scrap the retrospective tax provisions introduced in 2012-13, under which Cairn was taxed in 2014 for a corporate restructuring undertaken in 2006-07.
