About
the Book
Abortion
has been and is the most controversial matter related to women health and
rights. Countries around the world have extremely divergent views when it comes
to the legality of the subject matter. Though in last few years the countries
worldwide have liberalized their abortion laws and have given it legal
recognition yet many countries have a restrictive view citing ethical reasons.
There is an ongoing debate, whether the countries should allow the procedure
without restriction or with restrictions considering the physical and mental
health of the woman as well as economic or social reasons pertaining to the
situation of the pregnant woman. India made the abortion laws liberal on 1971
by enacting MTP Act which was designed to create certain exceptions to the
strict provisions of IPC which declare that all abortions, miscarriage are
criminal unless they are undertaken to save the life of a pregnant woman.
