Shri Rajiv Kumar assumes charge as the 25th CEC of India (MAY 15, 2022)
Shri Rajiv Kumar today assumed charge as the 25th Chief Election Commissioner of India at Election Commission of India, Nirvachan Sadan, New Delhi in pursuance of the Ministry of Law & Justice, Government of India’s Gazette Notification dated May 12, 2022.
Shri Rajiv Kumar has been serving in ECI as Election Commissioner since September 1, 2020. During his tenure as Election Commissioner, elections have been held for State Assemblies of Bihar in 2020, Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal amidst Covid concerns in March-April 2021 and also elections to Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh recently in early 2022.

Department of Telecommunication Launches “GatiShakti Sanchar” Portal for Centralised Right of Way (RoW) approvals (MAY 14, 2022)
In line with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Communications, Electronics & IT and Railways, has launched the “GatiShakti Sanchar” portal for Centralised Right of Way (RoW) approvals (www.sugamsanchar.gov.in) today (May 14, 2022).
The portal, has been developed by MP state Electronics Development Corporation on behalf of DoT.
SUPREME COURT
SC takes cognisance of delay by Allahabad HC in deciding appeal, issues notice (MAY 15, 2022)
Taking cognisance of inordinate delays on the part of Allahabad High Court in deciding criminal appeals which lead to convicts languishing in jail for years waiting for their appeal to be heard, the Supreme Court has sought response from the HC on various issues including the process followed by it in listing the criminal appeals and number of benches available to take up the pending appeals.
A bench headed by Justice U U Lalit, S Ravindra Bhat, P S Narasimha and Sudhanshu Dhulia issued notice to the Registrar General of the HC and directed him to respond on why appeals were not being decided expeditiously.

Private schools need to complete reimbursement process of tuition fees of minority students in Delhi (MAY 15, 2022)
Delhi government on Monday asked private schools to complete online verification on the 'Reimbursement of Tuition Fees to the Minority Students Scheme'. The Delhi government is facing heavy pending cases at the school level which is becoming a hindrance for them to pay the beneficiary students.
The Directorate of Education for various zones and districts is directed to complete online verification of all applications on the e-district portal in "Reimbursement of Tuition Fees to the Minority Students" for 2020-21 and 2021-22 as per the guidelines of the scheme.

Lenskart subsidiary Neso Brands raises $100 million in largest seed funding round (MAY 15, 2022)
Omnichannel eyewear retailer Lenskart’s subsidiary firm, Neso Brands, a D2C start-up, has raised $100 million in a seed funding round, in what is the largest seed fund-raise in the start-up ecosystem ever. The fresh funds infusion in Lenskart’s subsidiary Neso Brands was led by KKR, SoftBank, Alpha Wave Global and Temasek.
The announcement comes on the heels of Lenskart having raised 760 crore (or nearly $100 million) in a new funding round from Alpha Wave Ventures last month. The filings stated that this was a Series-I round with issuance of 36,41,646 series shares at Rs 2087.52 per share to raise Rs 760 crore..
D2C start-up 10club, an e-commerce brands rollup venture, earlier had reported as having raised the largest seed funding round at $40 million in June last year.

National Broadband Mission (NBM) was set up by the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) on December 17, 2019; to facilitate universal and equitable access to broadband services across the country, especially in rural and remote areas. To fulfil this vision, it is imperative that a backbone of infrastructure is created by facilitating smooth and efficient deployment of Digital Communications Infrastructure across the country. To ensure that, DoT, is launching the “GatiShakti Sanchar” portal. This will provide a robust mechanism to achieve the goal of “Broadband for All” as envisaged in the National Digital Communication Policy-2.
