A revenue Deficit Grant of Rs. 7,183.42 crores released to 14 States ( SEP  6, 2022)

The grant has been released as per the recommendations of the Fifteenth Finance Commission. The Fifteenth Finance Commission has recommended a total Post Devolution Revenue Deficit Grant of Rs. 86,201 crores to 14 States for the financial year 2022-23. 

The recommended grant is released by the Department of Expenditure to the recommended States in 12 equated monthly instalments. With the release of 6th instalment for the month of September 2022, the total amount of Revenue Deficit Grants released to the States in 2022-23 has gone up to Rs. 43,100.50 crores.

Cases under Section 66A of the IT Act are a matter of serious concern says Supreme Court (SEP 6, 2022)

The Supreme Court on Tuesday said it is a matter of serious concern that Section 66A of the Information Technology Act was still being used, though it has been declared unconstitutional in 2015.  

Section 66A made sending of offensive messages through a computer device for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience, danger, obstruction, insult, injury, criminal intimidation, enmity, hatred or ill will etc., a punishable offence with up to three years of jail and a fine.  

The top court declared the provision unconstitutional in 2015.

Massive crackdown in Delhi excise policy case, ED raids underway in Delhi, five states (SEP 6, 2022)

Raids are currently underway at the premises linked to Amit Arora, director of Buddy Retail Pvt Limited, in Gurugram, Haryana, and a businessman Sameer Mahandru in Jor Bagh, Delhi.

The development comes on the back of a case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the matter. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia is among those who have been named as accused in the “scam” in the central probe agency’s charge sheet.
