Supreme Court to hear on Nov 1 pleas challenging Sec 6A of Citizenship Act (SEP 07, 2022)

The issue has been scheduled for hearing on November 1 by the Bench of Justices D.Y. Chandrachud, M.R. Shah, Krishna Murari, Hima Kohli, and P.S. Narasimha. The court was considering a case challenging Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, which was added in 1985 as part of the Assam Accord.

The Assam Accord was a Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed by representatives of the Government of India and Assam Movement leaders. On 15 August 1985, it was signed in New Delhi in the presence of then-Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.  The core point of the accord was the identification and deportation of illegal immigrants from Assam, for which the All  Assam Students’ Union (AASU) had been protesting since 1979.

RBI Mulls Addressing Monopoly of PhonePe, Google Pay in UPI Space; Deputy Guv Explains (SEP 07, 2022)

Reserve Bank of India deputy governor T Rabi Sankar on Wednesday said that the central bank was going to find a solution to the problem of payments done on the United Payments Interface (UPI) getting concentrated on two big players — Google Pay and PhonePe.
