All India Conference of Law Ministers and Law Secretaries to begin from tomorrow in Gujarat (OCT 13, 2022)

An All India Conference of Law Ministers and Law Secretaries is being organised by the Ministry of Law and Justice from 14th – 16th October, 2022 at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, where Law Ministers & Law Secretaries from States and Union Territories will be participating.

This initiative by the Ministry of Law & Justice will provide a forum for discussion on a variety of topics relating to India's legal system so that policymakers may develop a road map for the country's future.

Bombay High Court proposes Section 498A settlement option (OCT 13, 2022)

Bombay High Court has asked the Centre to consider making cases under Indian Penal Code Section 498A, related to harassment and cruelty by husband or his relatives towards the wife, a compoundable offence by which the parties concerned can effect a compromise without having to approach a court. 

The order was passed on a petition filed by a man, his sister and mother seeking to quash an FIR registered against them in 2018 by Pune police. The man’s estranged wife had alleged harassment by her in-laws and husband.

HDFC Life gets final approval from IRDAI for merger of Exide Life (OCT 13, 2022)

On January 1, HDFC Life informed that it had completed the acquisition of a 100 per cent stake in Exide Life from Exide Industries through the issuance of 8,70,22,222 shares at an issue price of Rs 685 per share and a cash payout of Rs 726 crore, aggregating to Rs 6,687 crore.

The company said that after the acquisition, Exide Life will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary of HDFC Life. Exide Industries now holds 4.1 per cent stake in HDFC Life.
