Fast Track Special Courts under POCSO Act Posted (08 DEC 2022)

Department of Justice has started a Centrally Sponsored Scheme in October 2019 for setting up of 1023 Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs) for expeditious trial and disposal of cases related to rape and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, in pursuance to the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act 2018. 

Initially, the scheme was for 1 year which has beencontinued up to 31.03.2023 at a cost of Rs.1,572.86 crore with central share of Rs.971.70 crore.733 FTSCs including 413 exclusive POCSO Courts are functional in 28 States/UTs (up to 31.10.2022). This information was given by the Minister of Law and Justice, Shri Kiren Rijiju in a written reply in Rajya Sabha today.

Order granting bail to DHFL’s Wadhawans not to be given effect to till Feb 1: Delhi High Court (DEC 8, 2022)

The Delhi High Court has directed that a trial court’s order granting bail to former Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Ltd (DHFL) promoters, Kapil Wadhawan and his brother Dheeraj, who were arrested by the CBI in connection with a multi-crore bank loan scam case, shall not be given effect to till February 1, next year. The high court’s order came after the counsel for Wadhawans and the CBI consented to it.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has challenged the trial court’s order granting statutory bail to Wadhawan brothers because of “incomplete charge sheet”.

Tamil Nadu Finance Minister hints at hike in the state’s capital expenditure three-fold (DEC 8, 2022)

Thiaga Rajan said that the state used to have capital expenditure close to 3-4 per cent of the Gross State Domestic product (GSDP) every year, but dropped from 2014 onwards, to about 1 per cent of the GSDP during the Corona pandemic. He said Tamil Nadu’s revenue deficit had been reduced by Rs 16,000 crore in 2021-22 resulting in the fiscal deficit being better than the revised estimates. 

As per the recommendations of the 15th Finance Commission, which were accepted by the Union government, states can roll over the remaining borrowing capacity from last year, he pointed out.

There is no requirement to look into the internal irregularities, and even if there are any irregularities, the company shall be held liable since the person has acted on the grounds of good faith.
