NCLAT refuses interim relief to Google on CCI’s Rs 936-cr penalty in Play Store policies matter (JAN 11, 2023)
In a setback to Google, the NCLAT on Wednesday declined to grant interim relief to the tech giant seeking a stay on competition watchdog CCI’s Rs 936.44-crore penalty on it for abuse of dominant position with respect to its Play Store policies. The appellate tribunal has directed Google to deposit 10 per cent of the fine before its registry in the next four weeks.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear a plea of Google against a recent order of NCLAT refusing an interim stay on Rs 1,337 crore fine imposed by CCI on the company for anti-competitive practices in relation to Android mobile devices.

In suppression of earlier notification issued in this behalf and in exercise of power conferred by Sub-Section (1) of Section 67 read with Sub-Section (41) of Section 2 of Motor Vehicles Act 1988 (15 of 1988), The Lieutenant Governor of Nation Capital Territory of Delhi hereby issues the following directions to the State Transport Authority of Delhi namely:-
The fare chargeable by the operators of Auto Rickshaw and Taxi (Black & Yellow Top) in the National Capital Territory of Delhi Shall be as follows:
A). Auto Rickshaw
Fare (including Rupees 0.50 charges for global positioning system
(GPS)/General packet radio service (GPRS/Control Room) |
Rs. 30/- for first fall of 1.5 Km (upon downing the meter) and
thereafter Rs. 11 per Km for every additional Kilometer. |
Night Charges |
25% of the fare (11.00 P.M. to 05.00 A.M.) |
Fare including 0.50 charges for Global Positioning System (GPS)/General
packet Radio Service (GPRS)/ Control Room) |
Rs. 40/- for first fall of 1 km (upon downing the meter) for and
thereafter Rs. 17 per km for Non-AC Taxis and Rs. 20 per km for AC Taxis for
every additional kilometer |

EXPORT AND IMPORT
With $588 million purchases in oil products, US becomes top buyer of India's refined petroleum goods (JAN 11, 2023)
There has been an increase of 23 per cent in imports of petroleum products by the US as against last year as the country purchased $3.62 billion worth of petroleum products in the eight months to 30 November, 2022. Notably, it was the highest buying by the US in the past five years.
Meanwhile, Russia exported crude oil worth $3.08 billion in November to India, making it the second-largest exporter to the country after Saudi Arabia, a data by the commerce ministry stated.

Led by a 1 per cent gain in Nasdaq Composite, U.S. stocks ended solidly higher on Tuesday, after Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell refrained in a speech from commenting on rate policy.
Powell made his first public appearance of the year at a forum sponsored by the Swedish central bank where he said that the Fed's independence is essential for it to battle inflation.
