Supreme Court gives 6 weeks to expert committee to find solution to accommodate Ukraine returned MBBS students (27 JAN 2023)

Supreme Court of India, SC on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 heard the case regarding the accommodation of nearly 20,000 MBBS students who returned to India due to the Ukraine War. During the hearing, the bench has given the expert committee six more weeks to come up with a viable solution for these students.

In December, the apex court had asked the Union Government to form a committee which would look into finding a solution for Indian students who returned home due to the outbreak of the Russia Ukraine War.

Sebi tightens scrutiny of Adani Group deals in aftermath of Hindenburg report (27 JAN 2023)

India’s market regulator has increased scrutiny of deals by the Adani Group over the past year and will study a report issued by short-seller Hindenburg Research to add to its own ongoing preliminary investigation into the group’s foreign portfolio investors, according to two sources aware of the matter. 

On Wednesday, the U.S. short-seller said it held short positions in the Indian conglomerate, accusing it of improper use of offshore tax havens and flagging concerns about high debt, leading to a massive sell-off of India-listed shares of the conglomerate’s companies.
