SC upholds NCLAT order on payment of dues to former employees of Jet Airways (30 JAN 2023)
In a setback to the Jalan-Kalrock consortium, the new owners of the cash-strapped Jet Airways, the Supreme Court on Monday upheld an NCLAT order directing the payment of the provident fund and gratuity dues of the grounded airline's former employees.
The NCLAT judgment indicates that nearly Rs 247.8 crore of gratuity claims are payable by the Jalan-Kalrock consortium on account of having been admitted by the resolution professional.
The appeal against the NCLAT order was filed on behalf of the consortium of Murari Lal Jalan and Florian Kalrock, the successful resolution applicants for Jet Airways (India) Limited.

ALLAHABAD HIGH COURT
Freedom of speech does not confer right to speak without responsibility: Allahabad high court (30 JAN 2023)
Observing that the right to freedom of speech does not confer upon citizens the right to speak without responsibility, the Allahabad high court has dismissed a petition filed by a woman who had sought quashing of proceedings against her for using abusive language and releasing obscene material on social media.
The present FIR was lodged against the accused at Nawabad police station of Jhansi district on May 31, 2022, alleging that they had tampered with photos and used abusive language and, thereafter made it viral on social media.
