About the Book

The 21st century has witnessed a rapid convergence of technological advancements, globalisation, and evolving societal dynamics. This confluence has profoundly impacted the landscape of human rights, presenting both opportunities and challenges. The proposed book, “Human Rights at the Intersection of IP, Technology and Emerging Global Issues”, aims to delve into the complex interplay between these factors, examining their implications for human rights protection and promotion.

The book seeks to explore how emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, information technology, biotechnology, and digital platforms, are reshaping the human rights discourse. It will examine issues of privacy, surveillance, algorithmic bias, and digital inequality and how these technologies challenge and redefine economic, social, and cultural rights. The book will also explore the potential of these technologies in promoting human rights realisation.
The book will also examine the potential conflict between Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) regimes, designed to incentivise innovation, and the realisation of fundamental human rights, particularly in areas like access to essential goods and food security. It will explore the need for a renewed focus on how IPR and globalised technological proliferation impact developing and vulnerable societies.

The book welcomes contributions that explore the Indian context or global perspectives outside of India, which deal with the subject in a comparative manner. It invites chapter contributions to highlight experiences, policies, and practices in addressing human rights issues and offers insights into potential solutions and best practices.
