About ICLAA

ICLAA, established in 1972, is one of the oldest legal aid organizations in India. Renowned legal luminaries like Mr. Justice Y.V. Chandrachud, Mr. Justice P N Bhagwat, Mr. Justice V R Krishna Iyer. Currently, Senior Advocate Sanjay Parikh acts as its chairman.

About the Fellowship

Justice S. Rangarajan Legal Aid Fellowship is a three-month (extendable to six months) part time fellowship designed to provide first-generation law graduates with practical legal aid experience and mentorship in litigation. The fellowship is run by Indian Council for Legal Aid and Advice (ICLAA) at the Delhi High Court.

Aim of the Program

  • Equip young lawyers with the necessary skills to excel in public interest litigation.
  • Provide exposure to diverse areas of legal aid practice within ICLAA themes.
  • Foster a commitment to pro bono legal work.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Strategic advisory to litigants reaching out to ICLAA;
  • Research on public issues relevant to rights based discourse;
  • Partnering with grassroot organizations lacking legal support;
  • Outreach planning in areas with inadequate legal literacy.

Perks of the Fellowship

  • Fellows  will  contribute  20  hours  per  week  physically  to  ICLAA,  working  alongside  experienced lawyers on various legal aid cases of courts in Delhi.
  • Receive mentorship and guidance from senior lawyers at ICLAA.
  • A monthly stipend of INR 10,000 and certificate of completion.

Who can Apply?

  • First generation Law graduates with a 0-3 years of litigation experience;
  • Demonstrated interest in human rights issues.  

Selection Procedure

  • Applications  will  be  shortlisted  based  on  the  application  form  details  of  which  are  given  below.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview.
  • The  final  selection  will  be  made  by  a  committee  comprising  representatives  from  ICLAA.

  • Statement of interest in the fellowship and relevant experiences.
